Saudi Arabian Businessman Interested in Indonesian Plywood

Saudi Arabian Businessman Meets the Indonesian Consulate General's Economy and Trade Team in Jeddah

Indonesia has been recognized as one of the wood-products producing countries by entrepreneurs in various countries in the world including from Saudi Arabia. In fact, based on data released by the Indonesian Wood Panel Association, Indonesia recorded itself as the second largest plywood exporter in the world after China, with the value of plywood exports worldwide reaching USD 1.7 billion in 2019.

Saudi Arabia is one of the countries in the Middle East that favors plywood products from Indonesia. Indonesian plywood that enters the Saudi Arabian market has excellent quality and beats similar products from various countries, in addition to these products having a price that can compete in the market. In 2015, Saudi Arabia even listed itself in third place as an importing country of Indonesian plywood after China and Japan.  According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, in that year Arabia imported up to 193 thousand tons of plywood and contributed to the total export value which reached USD 2.37 billion.

Seeing the great potential that these commodities have every year in the Saudi Arabian market, one of the Saudi Arabian businessmen, Abdullah Al Zaebani, on June 3, 2021, took the time to hold a meeting with the Integrated Economic Promotion Team (Prometer) of the Consulate General in Jeddah, which on this occasion was represented by the Head of the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) Jeddah, Muhammad Rivai Abbas.

During the meeting held at the Indonesian product showroom, Abdullah Al Zaebani said that his party was interested in bringing in commodities from Indonesia, especially plywood. The desire was moved after seeing the market potential and quality of the products from Indonesia. To show his seriousness, Abdullah has also submitted a list of requests for goods accompanied by the specifications and estimated quantity needed per month.

For this reason, Rivai welcomed the wishes of the businessman and immediately followed up by providing a list of companies that were considered competent and able to establish cooperation with Saudi Arabian entrepreneurs. In addition, Rivai also introduced other Indonesian products besides food and beverages that have high absorption in the Saudi Arabian market such as marble products and sanitary products.

The Prometer Team of the Consulate General in Jeddah continues to introduce Indonesian products that have the potential to develop in the Saudi Arabian market or products that are widely absorbed by the Saudi Arabian market. One of these efforts is realized by the establishment of an Indonesian product showroom in Jeddah which can be utilized by Indonesian entrepreneurs to showcase their products. Thus, the visiting Saudi Arabian businessmen can directly look at the products of real interest.
